The Visayan DAILY STAR would like to take this opportunity to thank our community of readers, advertisers, and supporters as we celebrate 43 years of service to the Negrense public.
Founded in 1982 by a plucky band of Negrense journalists who craved independence from vested interests, the Visayan DAILY STAR has been a witness, leader, influencer, victim, and even a survivor as we strove to deliver the daily news, opinions, and happenings in Negros society over the past 4 decades and hopefully, beyond.
We take pride in saying that our commitment to community journalism, delivering hyperlocal news to Negrenses day in and day out, has stood the test of time, although it was not without challenges. This is an achievement that could have not been possible without the support of our community who stuck with us through thick and thin. You know who you are, thank you for the patronage and support that allowed our shining Star to make it this far and even imagine a better future ahead.
As we look back at the history that our correspondents fearlessly recorded, including martial law and a dictatorship, a new government and Constitution, the province dealing with rebels, the rise of the internet, followed by social media, and even a pandemic that forced us to stop the presses for almost a month, we cannot help but breathe a sigh of relief, thinking of the challenges we faced and fortunately overcame, all of which would have been impossible without the support of our community.
The Visayan DAILY STAR would not have become the undisputed leader and most trusted newspaper in the community if it had not earned the trust of all the critical sectors: from the households, to businesses, leaders and politicians, public sector, advertisers, and even our critics and competitors. Armed with that invaluable support, we hope to continue our journey of providing the most accurate and unbiased news and fearless views for as long as we can, rising above the challenges that come as times change.
Thank you for being with us for the past 43 years, and we hope that we can go together for much longer.*
