Forty-four members of the New People’s Army availed of P1,320,000 financial assistance from the Negros Occidental provincial government, part of efforts to help them rejoin mainstream society.
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the awarding of P30,000 each to 44 former rebels, in a ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City, witnessed by Brig. Gen. Ted Dumosmog, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, Provincial Planning and Development Officer Ana Marie Lucasan, and Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan, 79IB commander.
Twenty-four of the 44 former rebels surrendered to the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion.
These initiatives are part of the government’s commitment in supporting former rebels as they reintegrate into society and transition to a peaceful and productive life, according to 1Lt. Dan Carlo Samoza, 79th Infantry Battalion Civil Military Operations chief.
In a statement, Lacson reiterated the Provincial Government’s dedication to peacebuilding efforts, ensuring that development programs will continue to support individuals and communities affected by conflict.
Dumosmog reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to peace and development, assuring the former rebels of the military’s full support as they transition to civilian life.
He also urged them to help in persuading their former comrades to surrender and join the path of peace.*
