Five armed men waylaid and shot a laborer in front of his family members in Sitio Natuling, Barangay Budlasan, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, on Wednesday.
Initial police investigations showed that the victim, a 38-year-old laborer-resident of Sitio Tiguisan, Brgy. Montilla, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, his wife, and their son, were on their way home when they were approached by five unidentified persons.
Without any provocation, the armed suspects shot the victim, who initially managed to run and jumped into a river which is located at the boundary of Canlaon City, Negros Oreintal, and La Castellana, Negros Occidental.
Unfortunately, the victim was hit by the gunfire, as the armed suspects pressed their attack by repeatedly firing at him, according to the police.
With the help of local disaster personnel of Moises Padilla and La Castellana, the lifeless body of the victim, with a gunshot injury in the head, was found on Thursday at the riverbank.
Police probers of La Castellana are coordinating with the Canlaon City Police Station, to identify the armed suspects involved in the killing.*
