“Admission with justification.”

This was the reply of five employees of the Office of the Provincial Agriculture to the show cause order issued against them by the Provincial Legal Office, for allegedly having a drinking session while on official travel in Victorias City, PLO head Atty. Alberto Nellas Jr. said yesterday.

Nellas said that the concerned OPA employees claimed to have been invited by an official of the City Agriculture Office for a drinking session.

Complaints for misuse of government property and grave misconduct filed by a Capitol employee who serviced them, while on official travel to Victorias City on July 15, this year.

The complainant, a driver, claimed he waited for the respondents until 8 p.m. but was later informed that they were at a restaurant allegedly having a drinking session.

Nellas said that they are presently consolidating the replies of the respondents, as he expects to release their findings within 20 days or the end of August.

That we will determine if we will proceed with filing of formal charges against the respondents, he added.

Nellas further said that the recent case involving OPA employees should be a lesson for employees of the provincial government.

He said the actuations of five OPA employees are tantamount to grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a public official.

Noting the Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson demands a high degree of accountability for public officers, Nellas said “we should be responsible of our government properties, especially now that we are implementing austerity measures to maximize the resources of the government.”*
