A 50-year-old man was hospitalized after he was repeatedly hacked by his brother-in-law in Sitio Lunao, Barangay Mahalang, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities identified the victim as alias ‘Rene,’ while the suspect was identified as alias ‘Ronie,’ both residents of the village.
According to reports from Himamaylan City Component Police Station, the victim was carrying a water container when the suspect suddenly intercepted him. Without provocation, the latter allegedly attacked the former multiple times with a bolo, locally known as binangon, inflicting wounds on various parts of his body.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident, carrying the weapon used in the attack. The victim was rushed to a hospital in Bacolod City for emergency medical treatment.
Police investigators have pointed to a long-standing family feud as the primary motive behind the assault.
A pursuit operation is currently underway as the suspect remains at large.*
