52 young tankers join fun meet

At least 52 local swimmers joined the age-group Novice 1 and 2 Fun Swim Meet on July 18, at the People’s Park, Brgy. 3, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

The swimming meet consisted of 98 events for four strokes: freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke, and five age-group categories for boys and girls: U6, U7-8, U9-10, U11-12, and U13 years old over.

First to third place winners received medals, while swimmers who failed to enter the top three received ribbons.

Swimmers Dave Mendieta, AJ Libongcogon, Jun Hiponia, Nica Delgado, Phil Geopano, Angela Torres, Mikaela Mahinay, Van Napari, Princess Manabat, Liam Polo, and Zia Cabales received the most medals in their respective age groups also received trophies.

Coach Tomas Katalbas of the San Carlos Swimming Club, The Marlins, said the swim meet is aimed at motivating swimmers, particularly beginners, to practice more. He thanked the local government of San Carlos, headed by Mayor Renato Gustilo, City Sports Office in-Charge Jesus Facundo Combate Jr., and parents for the support.

City Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona also reminded the swimmers who aim to be champions to practice more, obey coaches and parents, be competitive, be disciplined, and possess the values of a champ.

Dennis Peñalosa, City Sports Office Handball Coordinator, and PSMSgt. George Acuin of the PNP-San Carlos were also present during the event.

The San Carlos Swimming Club facilitated the event, in line with the 63rd Charter Anniversary, in coordination with the City Sports Office.*
