The Department of Health-Negros Island Region Center for Health and Development (DOH-NIR-CHD) reported seven deaths in 558 road crash incidents across the region, from December 21 last year to January 4.
Negros Occidental topped the list of road crash incidents at 328, Negros Oriental had 152, Siquijor recorded 66, and 12 at highly-urbanized Bacolod City.
About 80 percent of the victims were not using road safety devices, and almost 29 percent were under the influence of liquor, according to DOH-NIR assistant regional director Adrian Hort Ramos.
The victims’ ages ranged from 21 to 30 years old, DOH-NIR reports further showed.
Abrasions comprise the majority of reported injuries.
Meanwhile, the number of fireworks-related injuries in Negros Island Region has risen to 152, as of Jan. 4, surpassing last year’s 131 cases, according to records of the DOH-NIR-CHD.
Negros Occidental topped the list with 114 blast injuries, followed by Negros Oriental at 30, while six were logged at highly-urbanized Bacolod City, and one in Siquijor.*
