The local government unit of Mabinay in Negros Oriental, through its Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, yesterday imposed a strict mandatory home quarantine on 56 households to stem the transmission of the coronavirus disease 2019.

Dr. Ernest Uy, municipal health officer (MHO) and IATF incident commander of Mabinay, in an interview yesterday afternoon, said these households are in Purok Proper of Barangay Inapoy, where an allied health worker positive for Covid-19 resides.

Uy said the community quarantine will bar concerned residents from leaving their purok or cluster until further notice, most likely until after the results of the throat swab tests of the allied health worker’s immediate family members are released.

The swab tests will be conducted today, he said.

The LGU will provide the quarantined residents with food and other necessities for the duration of the mandatory quarantine, Uy added.

Although he admitted the lack of police personnel to keep an eye on the purok 24/7, they have come up with a mechanism to ensure that there are no violators of the community quarantine, the doctor said.

Early this week, the provincial IATF, through Assistant Provincial Health Officer, Dr. LilandEstacion, announced nine new Covid-19 positive cases in the province.

They were a 32-year-old and a 47-year-old female health workers assigned at the Inapoy Community Primary Hospital in Mabinay.

The two health workers had come into direct contact with a nurse from Negros Occidental, who tested positive and died last week, Estacion said.

The other allied health worker from the Inapoy Community Primary Hospital had returned to her hometown in Sibulan on board a Ceres bus, Uy said.

Contact tracing is now being done to locate all the persons that the two allied health workers had come in contact with, he added.

Last week, Estacion announced the temporary shutdown of the Inapoy Community Primary Hospital following the death of its head nurse.*PNA
