A 6-year-old child was accidentally shot by his father inside their temporary residence at Hacienda Paul Chang, Estado, Barangay 10 in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, on August 30.
According to the initial investigation by the Victorias Component City Police Office, the suspect was in a drinking session at his temporary residence, together with a companion.
During the gathering the suspect was showing off to his friend the firearm he possessed, when he accidentally pulled the trigger of his unidentified caliber firearm, which discharged and hit his daughter who was sitting beside him.
The 6-year-old victim sustained a gunshot wound on the left side of her face, and was immediately rushed to Abelardo and Remedios Bantug Memorial Hospital in Victorias City for emergency treatment, where she was declared dead upon arrival
The suspect, the victim’s father, was identified as Randy Montifalco, 32, a farmer, and a resident of Brgy. San Isidro, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
The case was referred to the Women and Child Protection Desk (WCPD), and the suspect was apprehended and will face charges in violation of Section 5 of RA 7695, or parricide.*
