Kanlaon Volcano has been in a restive state for almost two years, as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded 14 more ash emission events, and occurrence of 67 volcanic quakes, including 18 volcanic tremors, within the 24 hours from March 23 to 24.
The series of ash emissions lasted between two minutes to about seven hours, according to PHIVOLCS.
From March 20 to 22, PHIVOLCS recorded 15 ash emission events at Kanlaon Volcano.
Ma. Antonia Bornas, chief of the PHIVOLCS Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division, earlier explained that the ash emission indicated that the magma within the volcano has been able to degas, which reduces the pressure that could trigger an explosion.
PHIVOLCS records further indicated that Kanlaon had moderately explosive eruptions on February 19 and 26, as well as on March 15.
On the other hand, the public has been advised by PHIVOLCS to be cautious of ashfall caused by the ash emission of Kanlaon Volcano.
The volcano’s edifice remains inflated, indicating continued magmatic pressure.
Alert Level 2 remains in effect over the volcano, indicating increased unrest.*
