Two military officers and five enlisted personnel of the 62nd Infantry Battalion were conferred Military Merit Medals with Spearhead Device by the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, in recognition of their bravery, during awarding rites held on August 27 at Camp Leon Kilat in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.
Maj. Gen. Michael Samson, 3ID commander, personally led the awarding of medals. He was assisted by Brig. Gen. Joey Escanillas, outgoing commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade.
The awardees, according to a statement issued by 3ID, were recognized for their exemplary performance during the armed encounter with remnants of the dismantled Central Negros 1, Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, at Sitios Lupo and Tubigan in Barangay Humay-Humay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
The armed engagement led to the death of a member of the New People’s Army and the recovery of two high-powered firearms.
Samson congratulated the awardees and the entire 302nd Infantry Brigade for a job well done.
This is a team effort where everyone contributed to the success of the operation. We must also not forget the efforts of the people who supported the operating troops in accomplishing their mission, he added.*
