A 7-year-old boy from Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City succumbed to dengue recently bringing the number of deaths to six as dengue cases continue to rise in the city.
Total reported dengue cases as of July 2 was 308, which is 196.2 percent higher than the number of cases in the previous year covering the same period. Dengue cases reported last year was 104 with two deaths, records from the City Health Office Environmental Sanitation Division said.
Records show that Brgy. Mansilingan had two recorded deaths due to dengue which include a 3-year-old baby girl. Other victims include an 11-year-old male from Brgy. Singcang, a 20-year-old female from Pahanocoy, a 19-year-old male from Sum-ag and a 75-year-old male from Tangub.
The barangays with highest number of dengue cases are Tangub and Mansilingan with 27 cases each; Singcang – 23; Estefania – 22; Sum ag – 21; Taculing and Alijis – 20 each; Mandalagan – 19; Villamonte -17; and finally, Handumanan and Granada with 15 cases each.
The CHO has been conducting an advocacy drive to increase dengue awareness and prevent and control the spread of mosquitoes in partnership with the barangays thru various activities like holding dengue noise caravans in barangays, distribution of information flyers, and conducting ongoing clean up drives in different barangays in Bacolod City.*
