More than 7,000 students in the local government units of Himamaylan City, Binalbagan, and Hinigaran, in the 5th district of Negros Occidental, availed of education financial assistance on September 27, as facilitated by Uswag Ilonggo partylist Representative Jojo Ang, and Rep. Emilio Bernardino Yulo III.
Ang and Yulo said that each student received P3,000.
The distribution of financial assistance was held at the Himamaylan City gym, also attended by Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson and Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao, Board Members Jose Benito Alonso and Rita Gatuslao, and representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI.
Yulo said this was the 5th leg this year, of releasing education assistance to deserving students in the 5th district of Negros Occidental.
In a press briefing, Yulo disclosed that he is investing much in education, by allocating about P80 million annually for 10,000 scholars in the 5th district.
While it is good to have barangay halls and covered courts for people’s convenience, the solon said it is more fulfilling to have somebody thanking him for educational assistance, that helps a lot for members of a family to graduate from college.
“I think it is a life changing experience for them,” Yulo added.
He also thanked Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Rep. Ang for their generosity in helping the 5th district scholars, endeavors he started while he was still a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental.
Aside from financial assistance, Yulo also extended year book and board examination assistance, among others, to the students.*
