A 71-year-old laborer sustained serious injuries after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing the National Highway in Barangay Damsite, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Thursday evening.
The victim, identified only by his alias ‘Edgar,’ a resident of Hacienda Ditsing, Barangay Cansilayan, was reportedly crossing the road at Purok Paghimakas around 7:30 PM when the incident occurred.
According to initial investigations by the Murcia Municipal Police Station (MPS), a Mitsubishi Strada driven by a 52-year-old farmer identified as alias ‘Jose,’resident of Brgy. Minoyan, was traversing the highway from Murcia town proper toward Bago City when the senior citizen suddenly crossed into the vehicle’s path.
The impact left the elderly man with severe injuries across different parts of his body.
Responding personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the victim to the Murcia Health Center for immediate triage before transferring him to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City for specialized medical treatment.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken into police custody following the incident while the vehicle involved was impounded by the authorities.*
