Policemen yesterday destroyed 72 unauthorized modified motorcycle mufflers confiscated from motorbike riders in EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

The destruction of modified exhaust pipes in front of the municipal hall was witnessed by Mayor Marvin Malacon, Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, and Councilors Gilda Parcon, Edgardo Agravante Jr. Wyndel Depasucat, Jovie Madayag, Gelita Parcon, Reylan Gamboa Sr., Joey Pugales, and Isidro Gomed Jr.

PMaj. Kenneth Jay Gratones, EB Magalona police chief, disclosed that the illegal exhaust pipes were seized from motorbike riders in the past three weeks, all over the town.

This was in response to complaints from town residents over the public disturbance caused by motorcycles.

The use of modified motorcycle mufflers is in violation of Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code).

Under Article IV, Section 34 para J of RA 4136, “every motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine shall be equipped with a muffler, and whenever said motor vehicle passes through a street of any city, municipality, or thickly populated district or barrio, the muffler shall not be cut out or disconnected. No motor vehicle shall be operated in such a manner as to cause it to emit or make any unnecessary or disagreeable odor, smoke or noise.”*
