79yo woman dies saving husband from fire

A 79-year-old woman died in a residential fire that broke out in Purok Maanyag 2, Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, on the night of May 6.

The victim, identified as Rosa Magbanua, reportedly perished after ensuring her husband, 62-year-old Jose Magbanua, reached safety.

The husband survived the incident but sustained first-degree burns to his back.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Bacolod said the incident resulted in the total destruction of four homes and partial damage to two others, covering an area estimated at 140 square meters.

The fire affected six families and 15 individuals, with property damage estimated at approximately P35,000.

Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya issued an official statement describing the event as a profound tragedy and a selfless act of sacrifice by the deceased.

The city government has committed to providing support to the bereaved family and the displaced residents during the recovery process.

Investigation into the exact cause of the fire is currently being conducted by the BFP.*
