What was supposed to be a birthday celebration ended in tragedy on Tuesday after eight of the 18 family members on board a Toyota van sustained injuries after their vehicle overshot the national highway in Purok Talos, Barangay Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.
According to an investigation by the DSB Municipal Police Station, the victims were on board the vehicle driven by alias Rod, who was celebrating his 60th birthday.
After celebrating at Toreno Resort, the group decided to head home. However, upon reaching a point at a blind curve in Talos Road, the vehicle’s brake system allegedly malfunctioned.
As a result, the vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and overshot into a creek, causing injuries to eight of the passengers, including the driver.
The injured were transported to Bacolod Adventist Medical Center in Bacolod City for medical treatment and are currently in stable condition.*
