8 more San Carlos gov’t workers test positive for illegal drugs

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Eight more job order workers of the San Carlos City government in Negros Occidental tested positive for use of illegal drugs, on Thursday disclosed Ana Liza Macaraya, the focal person of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council.

That brings to 21 the number of city employees who have tested positive for drug use, out of 951 city government workers that were subjected to random drug testing from August 12 to December 5, Macaraya said.

The eight JO workers form part of the 180 employees assigned at the City Engineering and Motorpool Divisions, as well as Waterworks department, who were subjected to random drug testing on December 2

Macaraya said the series of drug testing forms part of the government’s effort to ensure a drug-free workplace, in compliance with the rules and regulations issued by the Civil Service Commission.

The JO workers that tested positive for drug use before November this year, have already been terminated from their respective jobs, she added.

However, those who recently tested positive for the use of illegal drugs will be dismissed from their jobs after December 31, in consideration of the Yuletide season celebrations, Macaraya further said.*
