82 percent drop in NegOcc dengue cases

Negros Occidental recorded an 82 percent drop in dengue cases, from January to August this year, compared to the same period in 2022, according to a report of the Department of Health Western Visayas – Center for Health and Development.

Dengue cases in highly urbanized Bacolod City also dropped by 53 percent, the DOH WV CHD report added.

Of the 335 cases, three mortalities were logged by the Bacolod City Health Office in the barangays of Villamonte, Tangub and Mansilingan, where all the victims were minors.

Antique recorded the highest drop in dengue incidence among the provinces and highly urbanized cities in Western Visayas during the first eight months of the year, at 89 percent, with recorded 259 cases and no deaths from January 1 to August 26 this year, compared to 2,339 cases with eight deaths for the same period in 2022.

Dengue cases also declined by  55 percent in Iloilo province; Guimaras – 47 percent; Iloilo City – 32 percent; and Capiz – 11 percent; while cases in Aklan province rose by 2 percent, based on data from DOH WV CHD.* with PNA reports
