• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

A total of 897 security personnel from various government agencies were deployed to secure the safety and security of Buglasan Festival 2025 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, during the send-off ceremony conducted by the Police Regional Office – Negros Island Region on Wednesday.

To ensure maximum security coverage across key areas of activity, 502 Philippine National Police uniformed personnel were assigned to patrol the city along with 80 Civil Security Unit, 53 firefighters, and 6 from drug enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, 156 personnel from the Negros Oriental Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office were disseminated across activity areas alongside 46 coast guards for quick response during emergencies. Fifty-eight traffic enforcers were also sent.

The personnel were tasked to achieve zero major crime incidents during the biggest festivity celebrated in Dumaguete City, which started yesterday, October 16, and continues until October 26.

“These personnel will be strategically positioned in festival venues, parade routes, public convergence areas, transport hubs, and other vital installations to ensure police visibility, crowd control, traffic management, crime prevention, and prompt response to any incidents. This integrated security effort aims to strengthen the overall peace and order framework of the Buglasan Festival,” PRO NIR said in a statement.

Authorities are expecting thousands of local and international tourists to visit the city and witness the rich culture and unity of the people of Negros Oriental.

Governor Manuel Sagarbarria said on Wednesday that at least 50 events will take place in the city during the festival, for which the city had allocated P9 million to make the events possible.*
