A minor drowned at a river in Purok Panacmalan, Brgy. East, Candoni, Negros Occidental, on June 24 or the feast of St. John the Baptist.
The drowning incident took place despite the order of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson to close all beach and mountain resorts, and recreational venues, to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
Initial investigations of the Candoni Police Station showed that the 9-year-old victim, a resident of Brgy. West, Candoni, drowned while swimming with his cousin.
His body was discovered by residents several minutes after he was reported missing.
The minor was declared dead on arrival at the Candoni Rural Health Unit, the police said.*
