93 WV police officers COVID-19 positive

The number of COVID-19 infected police personnel rose to 93 in Western Visayas, as 12 were reported yesterday to have tested positive of the virus, a report of the PNP Health Service said.

A sudden surge in the COVID-19 infection among police personnel in Region 6 was noted in the past weeks, from single digits at the start of the year to 93, as of January 23.

Of the 93 cases, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office has 14, while the Bacolod City Police Office recorded one case.

The Police Regional Office 6 headquarters topped with highest cases at 19, followed by National Support Units (NSUs) – 15, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 – 10, Iloilo City Police Office and Iloilo PPO with six each, Aklan and Capiz PPOs with four each, and Guimaras PPO with 2.

The number of police fatalities remained at seven, with two each at NOCPPO and ICPO, and one each at PRO6, IPPO and NSU.

Of the 12 new COVID-19 infected police personnel, four of them assigned at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, with one of them re-infected by the virus, two each at the Iloilo City Police Office, Antique Police Provincial Office and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6, and one each at the Aklan and Iloilo Police Provincial Offices.

There are four recoveries, two of whom are NOCPPO police officers, and one each assigned at RMFB6 and National Support Units.*
