A “MassKara Exhibit” by the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros opened at Calle Catorce Bar and Restaurant along 14th-Lacson streets, Bacolod City on October 22, and will run until the end of November.
Leading the ribbon-cutting were AABN president Tey Sevilleno and AABN artist and photographer Flozard Gedalanga.
More than 20 artists of AABN participated in the exhibition that showcases over 40 of their artworks on the MassKara Festival, which is being celebrated in Bacolod City every October.
“We continue the legacy of the MassKara Festival, which was started by artists of AABN,” Sevilleno said.
After the sinking of M/V Don Juan on April 22, 1980, the AAB artists, headed then by its president Ely Santiago, came up with the idea of a festival of smiling masks that was then named the MassKara Festival.
AABN, the longest running art association in the Visayas, will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in July next year.*
