ACCESS praises power rate cut

The Alliance of Concerned Consumers in Electricity and Social Services (ACCESS), welcomes and appreciates the recent announcement of Negros Electric and Power Corp.(Negros Power), reducing electricity rates for the billing month of May 2026, a press release from ACCESS said.

For households and small businesses across Central Negros, every peso saved on power bills means more capacity to cover food, medicine, school needs and other essentials. The reduction provides immediate economic relief to consumers who have been managing the impact of rising costs of living over the past months. For the workers-consumers, it will prevent the further deterioration of their purchasing power, it said.

ACCESS president Wennie Sancho, commends the Negros Power and Electric Corp., for acting on adjustments that directly benefits end-users. “We recognize that rate adjustments are shaped by generation costs, regulatory mechanisms and operational factors. We acknowledged the efforts of Negros Electric and Power Corp., to ensure that savings are passed on to consumers this May.”

For households consumers in Central Negros, the average residential rate fell to P11.3808/kWh down by P0.8655/kWh from April’s P12.2463/kWh. This translates to real savings on the next bill: a household consuming 200 kWh will save approximately P173 and a household at 300 kWh will save around P260, he said.

At a time when many households are still managing rising costs of food, fuel and basic services, this cut is a form of an immediate economic relief in these trying and difficult times. It requires no application, no delay and directly reduces the economic burden of consumers in Central Negros, Sancho said.

“On behalf of our members and the broader consumers community in Central Negros, ACCESS would like to thank Negros Electric and Power Corporation for this step forward easing the burden on the Filipino households particularly in Central Negros,” he concluded.*
