The tourism industry of the municipality of Cauayan in southern Negros Occidental will be enhanced with the paving of access road delivered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), that is hoped to encourage local and foreign tourists to visit the town’s beautiful spots.

Undertaken by DPWH, Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT), the P25.68-million project, funded under the District’s CY 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA), includes construction of a 1.04-kilometer Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road.

It also includes construction of grouted riprap and stone masonry, provision of metal guardrails, application of thermoplastic pavement markings, and installation of 35 solar LED lights.

Citing the report of District Engineer Rodney Gustilo, Regional Director Nerie Bueno stressed that the improved road is beneficial to the tourism industry as it leads to tourist spots in the area.

“This concrete road provides access to Punta Bulata, a must-visted tourist destination which offers pristine blue waters, majestic white beach, and quality resort to accommodate both local and foreign tourists,” Bueno said.

“Hence, to promote tourism industry in the town, the construction of the access road was aggressively undertaken by DPWH, in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT),” Bueno added.

“This convergence project will boost tourism activities in this coastal part of Negros Occidental. The beautiful beaches and rich marine products in this area will allure potential goers to visit and experience the nature’s scenic view, which in return, will bring economic development to the locals,” Bueno also said.

Meanwhile, Gustilo said the paved road will offer convenient transportation for tourists and faster and less costly transportation among the people in the locality.

“With the concrete road, fisherfolks can easily deliver their products to the market at a lower transport cost, bringing more income for their families. Likewise, resident will have a better access to the main road going to government facilities for their social, health and educational needs, as well as faster access to health facilities in case of emergency,” Gustilo said.

The completed project provides great accessibility, ease of conveyance, and better service to both residents and visitors. This is one of the quality infrastructure facilities provided by the DPWH in response to the needs of the people in the pursuit of national development.*
