Advocates seek justice for abandoned cats

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

An incident of alleged animal cruelty and abandonment was caught on video, where a woman was seen deliberately leaving two cats beside the national highway in front of Yee-On Elementary School, Barangay Cabahug, Cadiz City.

A screengrab from the video evidence, posted by BACH Project PH, shows the woman leaving two cats, one tuxedo (black and white) and one tabby (black and gray), which then scattered and ran off into the dangerous surroundings.

The current fate of the abandoned cats is unknown, raising fears for their safety given the heavy highway traffic and lack of food or shelter, especially amid recent heavy rains.

The advocate group said in a statement that they already have the perpetrator’s vehicle plate number.

They are now actively seeking legal guidance to file a formal case against the woman.

The law imposes stiff penalties for such offenses, including fines and potential imprisonment.

The BACH Project PH are appealing to the public for immediate assistance in locating and rescuing the missing animals.

“Animals are not disposable. Abandonment is cruelty. Let’s not be silent,” the group said.

They are also asking for coordination help to ensure the complaint is properly lodged with the right authorities to ensure justice for the abandoned pets.*
