The Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command has deployed three new medical teams composed of doctors, nurses and medical aides in Bacolod City to augment health personnel of local hospitals.

Lt. Gen. Roberto Ancan, commander of the AFP Central Command, said yesterday that the members of the three medical teams, who arrived Wednesday night at the Bacolod Silay Airport from Cebu via an Air Force plane, will be stationed at the Bacolod Queen of Mercy Hospital and Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital.

The members of the team were among the AFP medical personnel assigned in Cebu City at the height of the spike of COVID-19 cases there.

Ancan said the medical teams will replace the AFP health personnel deployed in August in Bacolod City, in response to the call for help of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, to fill up the gap left by doctors and nurses who were placed under quarantine.

Leonardia said that each team will be composed of one doctor, four nurses and health care workers.

Ancan also said that the AFP Central Command also sent COVID-19 contact tracers to Bacolod City.

Ancan said that they and IATF-Visayas managed to reduce COVID -19 positive cases from three digits to single digit in Cebu City, due to massive efforts in the conduct of contact tracing, strict implementation of minimum health protocols, and prohibition of patients tested positive for the virus to be placed under home quarantine, and maintenance of check up points.

The Inter-Agency Task Force-Visayas is now helping the Bacolod City government and Negros Occidental provincial government in the fight to address the local transmission of COVID-19.*
