Albee asks for understanding over traffic congestion

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has asked for understanding on the inconvenience and traffic congestion brought by the on-going P85 million road construction in Cabug-Handumanan Road in Bacolod City.

In a statement, Benitez asked the contractor to do their best not to wait until the Sept 2025 deadline, and instead try to finish it before the year ends.

He assured the public that the traffic congestion and other inconveniences brought about by the ongoing road construction project is being addressed to by all concerned agencies involved in the project.

Stressing that it is just temporary, Benitez said the long term effect is smooth and convenient travel for everyone.

The road had been subject to numerous complaints from residents, motorists and commuters for decades. It had been mocked and even called and described as “abortion road”, “ocean road”, or “accident-prone road” due to its poor condition.

It was only during the Benitez administration that the neglected road had been finally attended to, the statement added.

The Construction/Improvement and Rehabilitation of Cabug-Handumanan Road has a total length of 1.3 kilometers, and its construction started on April 5 this year. It is expected to be completed September 27 next year.

The project also includes the concreting of drainage, with a manhole, which will be finished in 90 days, depending on the weather.

The project is almost 20 percent completed.

Benitez has instructed the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office to deploy personnel to address the problem of traffic congestion.*
