A group art exhibit titled “All is Fair” is currently ongoing until August at Block 17, Art Space at the Art District in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City, showcasing the works of 76 Negrense visual artists.
This exhibition explores the individual’s experiences and discernment of discord from a global to a personal standpoint. A famous line by poet John Lyly in his novel Euphues: The Anatomy of Wit published in 1579 – all is fair in love and war – pertains to breaking all the rules and throwing fair play out of the window when either is at stake, Karina Broce-Gonzaga, gallery owner and visual artist, said.
Significantly when tampering with historical information, executing political injustices, and disregarding societal and moral good are concerned, “all is fair” proves to be an affront, all acts within the realm of war, she said.
With a collection of works on paper, artists probe into both fairness and prejudices while working on limited color palettes. Through this restraint, each expresses the restrictions of controlled options by sharing their interpretations of possibilities as shown in this exhibition, Gonzaga added.*
