BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

An alleged member of the New People’s Army facing attempted murder charges was briefly detained and released from police custody after posting the recommended bail of P120,000, on September 3 in Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.

Dayen Zamora, 36, was arrested by the Hinobaan police on Saturday at Purok 7, Brgy. Bulwangan, Hinobaan, by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Kabankalan Regional Trial Court Judge Rodney Magbanua.

PCapt. Ramel Bustamante, Hinobaan police chief, yesterday said that Zamora was alleged to have been among the rebels who figured in an encounter with government troopers last year in the town, resulting in the injury of an Army soldier.

After her arrest, Zamora was later released from police custody, after posting a surety bond, Bustamante said.

On the other hand, two murder suspects were accounted for by the police in separate operations against fugitives of the law in Himamaylan and Bago cities, Negros Occidental.

By virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Walter Zorilla, Rene Boy Montez, a 43-year-old laborer, was apprehended by the police in Sitio Igaw, Brgy. Carabalan, Himamaylan City.

The apprehension of Montez, the result of a joint operation of the Special Action Force and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 troopers and the local police, also led to the recovery of an improvised shotgun, police said.

A fugitive from Rizal province was also apprehended by the police, also on Saturday at Purok Santa Rita in Brgy. Dulao, Bago City.

Nabbed was Rolly Dequila, 59, of Sitio Mabiya, Pililla, Rizal Province

Dequila has a pending arrest warrant for murder, issued by Morong, Rizal Judge Alejandro Marquez, who denied him of bail, police said.*
