Ang pushes for tighter security in gov’t spaces

• THERESA MAE DULMAN / CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Councilor Em Ang authored a resolution urging the implementation of stricter security measures at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) and other city government facilities.

The resolution highlights the need to enhance peace and order and ensure the safety of government and public spaces.

“I think it’s important, because of what happened in Ibajay, Aklan, [which] is an eye opener for all, not only in their area, but as a matter of fact for all government and public spaces to be more secure and safe,” Ang said.

On August 8, the Municipal Vice Mayor of Ibajay, Aklan, was shot dead at their Sangguniang Bayan office.

In the resolution, the SP is urging the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), through the Office of the Mayor and relevant security agencies, to implement stricter security protocols, including but not limited to: installation of additional security cameras and metal detectors at all entrances; deployment of additional security  personnel in and around government facilities;  conducting regular security audits and drills to ensure preparedness; and establishing clear protocols for emergency response and evacuation.

It also encourages cooperation among local law enforcement agencies, private security providers, and the community to promote a culture of safety and vigilance.

“Just to make sure that no firearms and other deadly weapons can enter,” Ang emphasized.*
