The Department of Agrarian Reform Negros Occidental 1-North will turn over P5 million worth of farm machinery to five agrarian reform beneficiary organizations in the cities of San Carlos and Cadiz, and Murcia town this month.

The DAR, through the Program Beneficiaries Development Division (PBDD), will give 45 units of farm equipment to the Sta. Rosa Farmers Association, A&G Esteban Farmers Association, RICEBIS Negros Agrarian Reform Cooperative of Murcia, Brgy. Quezon Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association of San Carlos City, and the Sicaba Farmers Association of Cadiz City.

Common service facilities to be distributed are 10 units of rice seeder, 10 units of collapsible dryer, five units of water pump irrigation system, five rice transplanters, five mechanical rice threshers, five floating tillers, and five hand tractors with implements.

“Although the north Negros Occidental’s fields are dominated by sugarcane, a large number of our farmers still allot wide lands for the production of our staple food, rice,” Rizalina Yuguing, officer-in-charge of the Agrarian Reform Program Office of DAR-PBDD, said in a statement.

She added, “To aid our farmers in making use of their awarded Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program lands, increase the crop yield while cutting down the labor cost, and boost the ARBOs’ rice production, we in DAR, have gathered our resources to make this project possible.”

The project is part of the Major Crop-based Block Farm Productivity Enhancement Project under the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support (CRFPS) of the PBDD.

The CRFPS is geared towards building the resiliency of agrarian reform communities with emphasis on enhancing and sustaining the agricultural productivity of beneficiary organizations as adaptation measures towards farming mechanization.

The project will also support the organizations to increase farm production, yield better income, and to reform their lives.*
