Armed men shoot farmer dead

A farmer was reported to have been summarily executed by group of unidentified armed men on June 10 in Sitio Mahusay, Brgy. Cambayobo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

The victim, who succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries, was identified by the police as Joemarie Nabeses, a 41-year-old rice farmer.

Initial police investigations showed that Nabeses was working on his rice field when a group of unidentified armed men arrived and shot him several times.

After the shooting incident, the armed men fled, leaving behind three four fired cartridges of caliber .45 pistol and 5.56 mm believed to from a M16 rifle, and a dud bullet of a .45 caliber pistol.

It was not determined yet by the Calatrava police if the armed suspects are members of the New People’s Army

Nabeses, whose body was retrieved by personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office from the scene of incident, was declared dead on arrival at the Calatrava Municipal Hospital.

On the other hand, an unidentified person was found dead inside a sugarcane plantation on June 9 at Purok Maasin in Brgy. Dulao, Bago City.

The body of the victim was already in an advanced state of decomposition, when it was discovered by a certain Roselyn Carmona.

As of press time, his identity has not been established by the Bago City police.*
