• THERESA MAE DULMAN

A 35-year-old laborer from Bacolod City was shot by a Philippine Army personnel after allegedly pointing a firearm at responding authorities in Barangay Macagahay, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on March 23.

The suspect, identified only as alias ‘Rey,’ was reportedly causing alarm and scandal in the area at around 7:45 p.m.

Responding members of the 62nd Infantry Battalion, who were conducting a community support program nearby, attempted to subdue the suspect, alongside barangay tanods.

However, the situation escalated when the suspect, armed with both a bladed weapon and a short firearm, ignored orders to surrender and instead aimed his gun at the soldiers.

In response, a member of the Philippine Army fired at the suspect, hitting him in the right leg.

Authorities rushed the suspect to the Moises Padilla Health Infirmary before he was transferred to a hospital in Kabankalan City for further treatment.

Moises Padilla Police have recovered the suspect’s weapons and submitted them to the PNP Crime Lab for ballistic examination.

The suspect now faces charges for Alarm and Scandal and Violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.*
