The Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion renewed its commitment to protecting the Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP) during the recent en banc meeting with the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB).
1Lt. Dan Carlo Samoza, 79th Infantry Battalion Civil Military Operations chief, who represented Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan at the meeting, said they will be working closely with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office and PAMB to prevent illegal logging, wildlife poaching, and other environmental threats within the park.
Stressing that the Northern Negros Natural Park is a vital natural asset that supports the health of the environment, Samoza said the 79IB commitment goes beyond safeguarding communities.
We are dedicated to protecting our region’s natural heritage and promoting sustainable practices to ensure a thriving ecosystem, he added.
Samoza added that the 79IB will include during its community engagements key topics in environmental awareness, and further encourage the adoption of sustainable practices which will increase involvement in conservation efforts.
By fostering environmental stewardship within the community, he added that the 79IB aims to build a united front in protecting the natural beauty and ecological value of the NNNP.
The park is considered as the largest watershed and water source for 17 towns and cities in the island, including Bacolod City.*
