The Art Association of Bacolod-Negros, longest-running art group in Negros, revealed their line up for upcoming art exhibits.
A TRIBUTE TO WOMEN
In celebration of the Women’s Month, the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros will hold a group exhibit at the lobby of the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City titled “Inday” A Tribute to Women, from March 14 to 31, a press release from the organizers said.
Inday is a Hiligaynon term used to call females of any age but of certain stature in the society or loved by the family.
In each family, we have an INDAY. A Mama Inday, Lola Inday, Tita Inday, Inday Daku, Inday Gamay. All of them are loved dearly. In our society, we also have women that we look up to and revere, and our highly-esteemed Indays may be businesswomen, women who run their sugarcane farms, or those who contributed greatly to the community.
According to the press release from the organizers, the exhibit celebrates our Inday in our lives as we take on the WOMAN as a subject in many ways we see them in our homes and in the society.
It adds that INDAY is nothing like a derogatory term used by others who do not understand what is INDAY to us Visayans. As the AAN-N would like to use art to such start conversations.
They want to build understanding of regionalistic norms to straighten up misconceptions and perceived stereotypes. Who is best to talk about us but ourselves? And as artists, we are chroniclers of our times and we want to put forward the importance of women in our art and our lives.
SEMANA SANTA 2023
A Lenten Art Exhibit will be held at the Museo De La Salle in Bacolod City from March 17 to April 7, a press release from the organizers said.
The Art Association of Bacolod-Negros has been working with the churches in Negros, such as the San Sebastian Cathedral and the San Antonio Abad Church, where AABN member artists painted several murals and paintings and donated to the church.
The outstanding works of these artists were part of the 14 Stations of the Cross of San Antonio Abad Church, all done in the 1970s.
AABN has a long tradition of depicting the life, death, and resurrection of Christ in its many exhibits in the past. And to continue this tradition, the artists will come together in the celebration of the Holy Week and its importance to Filipinos.
In different styles and genres, AABN artists will once again relive the passion and life of Christ in their art.
The Semana Santa 2023 Exhibit will be alongside Museo De La Salle Bacolod’s religious artifacts and relics.*
