Another ash emission event, which lasted 20 minutes, was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) at Kanlaon Volcano on Thursday.
The ash emission started at 12:37 p.m. until 12:57 p.m. on October 30 generated grayish plumes that rose at 300 meters from the crater, before drifting in the general western direction.
PHIVOLCS also logged four volcanic earthquakes at Kanlaon Volcano, which remains under Alert Level 2, barring entry into its 4-kilometer permanent danger zone, and flying within four kilometers from the volcano.
As a result of the minor explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Oct. 24, the ashfall has contaminated spring water sources in Barangay Mailum, Bago City, Negros Occidental, affecting 5,833 residents of the village.
Other barangays in Bago City that also experienced ashfall or sulfuric odor, were the villages of Ma-ao, Ilijan, Bacong, Abuanan, Tabunan, and Dulao.
The Oct. 24 eruption of Kanlaon Volcano was the fifth event recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology since June 3, 2024.*
