Two ash emissions were recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Wednesday, the first emission lasting more than an hour, followed by a short two-minute emission.
Ptolemy Mañego, PHIVOLCS Science Research Assistant, said the ash emission started at 6:18 a.m. and ceased at 7:27 a.m., producing a low plume that drifted north-northeast.
Mañego described the ash emissions as weak.
No ashfall was reported in the surrounding areas, he added.
Despite increased seismic activity, Mañego said that the Kanlaon Volcano remains at Alert Level 2, with entry into the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) prohibited, and flying of aircraft close to the volcano not allowed.
PHIVOLCS also recorded 60 volcanic quakes, with plumes reaching 300 meters, and the emission of 1,200 tons of sulfur dioxide.
Under Alert Level 2, the institute recommends the evacuation of all residents within a 4-kilometer radius of the volcano’s summit.*GPB
