The Bacolod City Government is rolling out a P55-million traffic modernization project featuring the installation of eight new traffic lights across major intersections to improve traffic management.
City Engineer Loben Ceballos, head of the City Engineer’s Office, confirmed that underground preparations, including excavation and cable laying, are already underway, with the physical installation of the traffic structures scheduled to begin this month.
Unlike traditional systems, these new units will be equipped with cameras and sensors capable of adjusting signal timings based on real-time traffic flow.
The budget covers the procurement, posts, and complete operational installation at the intersections of Burgos-Circumferential Road, Burgos-Lopez Jaena, Burgos-Lacson, Lacson-B.S. Aquino, Lacson-Rizal, Lacson-Hernaez, Araneta-Lizares, and Araneta-Hernaez.
The infrastructure upgrade follows numerous motorist complaints regarding malfunctioning traffic signals, including incidents along the Circumferential Road where red and green lights reportedly simultaneously illuminate.*
