Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya personally offered assistance to the family of 11-year-old Nathaniel Palic, who tragically died after being struck by lightning on October 15, in Barangay Granada, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office said.
On October 17, the mayor met with the victim’s mother, Marevic Palic, to personally hand over financial aid to the bereaved family. The assistance was provided from the mayor’s personal funds, supplementing the burial support from the Bacolod City Government.
According to Marevic Palic, she was resting at home that Wednesday afternoon when tragedy struck – her eldest son, Nathaniel, was standing in the kitchen inside their house when he was struck by lightning during a sudden thunderstorm. He died on the spot.
Marevic, who is four months pregnant with her sixth child, continues to cope with the loss, supported by relatives and neighbors. Her husband works as a utility worker at a resort.
Gasataya has assured the family of the city government’s ongoing support and monitoring of their welfare, reinforcing the local government’s commitment to assisting families in distress.*
