Bacolod City distribution and turnover assistive devices and supplies for PWDs, a project initiated by Upward Inc. from the City Development Council Tuesday at the Bacolod City Government Center lobby, a press release from Bacolod PIO said.
A total of 25 PWD associations from various barangays in Bacolod City received essential assistive devices and supplies, including wheelchairs, crutches, quadcane, glucometer, BP apparatus, pulse oximeter, walker, commode, medicines maintenance, medicine kits, white cane sticks for the blind, and protector sunglasses for blind.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who was present at the event, emphasized the city’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities (PWDs).
“You truly deserve to receive these because they are a necessity. It’s a good thing I was able to attend this turnover ceremony so I could personally see where the city still lacks in providing benefits for our fellow PWDs. That is the first thing I will address. I will ensure that in future distributions and events, these benefits will no longer be something you have to wait for or request—they should be readily available,” Benitez stated.
Also in attendance were City Councilors Claudio Puentevella, Simplicia Distrito, Em Ang, and Pysche Marie Sy, along with CDC secretariat Mary Jean Ramos, DSSD head Rachel Verdeprado, PWD focal person Alma Gustilo, and Sectoral head Carmeli Bantug.
The initiative reflects Bacolod City’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and provide essential support for the PWD community.*
