The Bacolod City Fire Station reported a significant decrease in the number of fire incidents in Bacolod City for the first four months of this year, as well as the decrease in damage to properties by about P21 million.
It recorded a reduction of 58 percent in the number of fire incidents from January to April this year, compared to the same period last year, based on a Comparative Fire Incident Report it recently released.
Based on the report, the total number of fire calls received dropped from 143 last year to only 60 this year. These are broken down as follows: residential building fires – from 52 in 2024 to 31; non-residential buildings – from 22 to 11, vehicular fires from 12 to four; and non-structural fires went from 50 to three.
Estimated damage to property also significantly decreased, from a total of P26,496,750 in 2024 to P5,228,950 in 2025, or a difference of over P21 million.
In terms of casualties, the number of injured civilians dropped 73 percent, from 11 to three. No injuries to fire personnel were recorded during the period.
Fire Chief F/Supt. Jenny Mae Masip credited the remarkable improvement to the bureau’s proactive fire prevention efforts, including house-to-house awareness drives, fire safety inspections, and strong community engagement.
“This is a clear result of our shared commitment to fire safety. We thank the people of Bacolod for their cooperation and continued vigilance,” she said.
The BFP continues to urge residents and business owners to observe fire safety measures, especially during the dry season, and to promptly report fire hazards and violations.*
