The Bacolod City Government has provided aid to 1,072 displaced families following the impact of Typhoons Tino and Uwan, which affected the city until yesterday, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office said.
The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) distributed food packs to 379 families yesterday from Barangays Alijis, Bata, Pahanocoy, Singcang-Airport, Taculing, Tangub, and Barangays 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 13, 14, 18, 26, 36, and Villamonte. These families had pre-emptively evacuated their homes due to Super Typhoon Uwan. Each food pack contained five kilos of rice, canned goods, and powdered drinks.
DSSD records indicate that 3,226 individuals were pre-emptively evacuated to 23 evacuation centers across the city. Additionally, 693 displaced families previously received food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office, in coordination with the Bacolod City DSSD.
Mayor Greg Gasataya has reaffirmed the city’s commitment to the safety and recovery of all affected residents, emphasizing that relief, clearing, and water distribution efforts are ongoing.
Following Mayor Gasataya’s directive, Job Order (JO) personnel from various departments were deployed on November 8 and 9 to assist in clearing operations and debris removal throughout the city.
Of the 428 uprooted trees recorded during Typhoon Tino, 109 have been cleared by inter-departmental teams from the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), City Health Office (CHO), General Services Office (GSO), Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), and other departments.
“We asked for reinforcement from our barangays and clearing teams. Our priority is those trees that fell onto electric posts to help hasten the restoration of power,” Gasataya said.
“We thank all our partner agencies and private individuals who continue to help. Our job order personnel, volunteers, and private donors are proof that Bacolod truly stands stronger together,” he added.
The city government, in coordination with Bacolod Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, continues to deliver potable drinking water to affected barangays, particularly those experiencing water interruption and power outages.
Water distribution began at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) evacuation site and expanded to Barangay Mansilingan, Granada, Purok Pablo Torre, Vista Alegre, Barangay Tangub, Purok Progreso, Taculing, and the ETCS 3 evacuation area.
The City Government has expressed gratitude to local water refilling stations for providing free water in support of the city’s relief efforts.
To date, the city has distributed over 20,000 liters of potable water to affected communities, prioritizing barangays without regular water and electricity supply following the typhoons.
The City Government urges residents to remain cautious and report hazards or debris through their barangay offices or EOC hotlines as recovery and rehabilitation efforts continue citywide.*
