About 400 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) cast their votes for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Bacolod City yesterday.
The ballots from their respective precincts from the various barangays where they are registered were brought to the BJMP yesterday so they can cast their votes. These were then returned to the schools/precincts of origin after the voting, Bacolod Election Officer Katrina Caña said in an interview over RMN yesterday.
Caña, meanwhile, said that most of the problems encountered during the election involved several voters who did not know where to find their polling precincts, which caused some delays in the voting process.
They have also received reports of vote buying in some barangays which they reported to the police. However, they have not received reports of any apprehensions, she said.
On the other hand, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez cast his vote in Barangay Mandalagan about 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
Benitez said he expects a high turnout in the 2023 BSKE.
The canvassing of votes was still ongoing in Bacolod City as of press time last night.*
