The City Government of Bacolod marked World Radio Day with the Kalantipan sa Kahanginan: The Broadcast Excellence Awards 2025, recognizing the outstanding contributions of radio in serving and informing the community.
According to a press release from the Bacolod PIO, the celebration complies with City Ordinance #08-14-702, which declares February 13th as Bacolod City’s official World Radio Day, recognizing radio’s vital role in public service and advocacy.
The event was attended by Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, Councilors Em Ang and Jason Villarosa, and former Councilor Homer Bais, along with several key partners who supported the initiative.
The awards ceremony honored outstanding programs and individuals in Bacolod’s radio industry.
The program awards were Best Radio Variety Program for AM: This Is My Life – Aksyon Radyo Bacolod; Best Radio Variety Program for FM: Afternoon Starsweep – Star FM; Best Radio Public Service Program: Sentro Serbisyo – RMN DYHB; Best Radio News Program: Bombo News and Views Morning Edition – DYWB Bombo Radyo Bacolod; Best Radio Drama Program: Mundo Mistiko – RMN DYHB; and PIA Most DevComm Oriented Program: Aksyon Reports Afternoon Edition
Youth Choice Awards went to Aksyon Radyo Bacolod for Best AM Station and Star FM for Best FM Station.
Individual Awards went to Best Radio Variety Program Host for AM: Wilma Sugaton – Aksyon Radyo Bacolod; Best Radio Variety Program Host for FM: Warren “Cocoy” Canada; Best Public Service Program Host: Art Tayhopon – Aksyon Radyo;
Best Radio (MOJO) Mobile Journalist – Male: Lourd John Diaz – Aksyon Radyo Bacolod; Best Radio (MOJO) Mobile Journalist – Female: Mia Francisco – DYWB Bombo Radyo Bacolod; Best Radio Newscaster: Bombo Pons Espino and Bombo Mia Francisco – DYWB Bombo Radyo Bacolod; and Icon of Radio: Jeony Bigay – RMN DYHB*
