Bacolod City’s annual Christmas tradition, the Festival of Lights, will now be celebrated with a flexible schedule in December, following an amendment to the ordinance that established the event.
Councilor Jason Villarosa, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Committee Chair on Tourism, confirmed that the ordinance creating the festival has been amended, rescheduling the festival date from every first Saturday of the month to any day of December.
Villarosa said that the committee, STI-West Negros University and the City Tourism Office in coordination with the Mayor’s Office, requested to move the festival.
“The committee shall decide on what date in December the festival will be celebrated,” Villarosa said.
The councilor added that they decided to move the date at the same time with the event of a private company who will also be organizing a show at the Bacolod City Government Center.
“I noticed that the first Saturday of December is not a good timing since it is always raining every time we hold the festival,” Villarosa added.*
