Bacolod dengue deaths now 13

Based on reports of the Bacolod City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (BCESU) as of October 29, the number of dengue-related deaths in Bacolod City has risen to 13.

Reports released by Dr. Grace Tan, City Health Office Environmental Sanitation Division head, showed that the total number of dengue cases in Bacolod City is 890, which is 195.7 percent higher than the number of cases last year, which was 301 with three deaths.

Barangays Granada and Mansilingan are considered hot spot areas for dengue, while the age range of affected individuals is from 1 month to 86 years old.

The barangays with the highest number of cases are Mansilingan with 109, followed by Taculing – 73, Estefania – 64, Tangub – 59, Singcang – 57, Villamonte – 52, Alijis – 48, Cabug – 47, Sum-ag and Mandalagan – 43 each, Handumanan – 34; Bata, Granada and Vista Alegre – 31 each, and Banago with 25.

The Bacolod City Health Office continues to intensify its campaign against the spread of dengue by reminding all individuals at the household level to search and destroy all breeding and nesting places of mosquitoes.

Those who have fever or flu like symptoms are also reminded to seek early treatment/consultation (2nd day of fever), and to stay hydrated with water/oresol, especially if with fever.

The CHO also reported 15 confirmed cases of cholera in Bacolod City and 239 cases of Acute Gastroenteritis, with 10 AGE- related deaths from September 1 to November 5.

Reports showed that Alijis and Banago had three confirmed cholera cases each, followed by Handumanan, Granada and Sum-ag with two cases each.*
