The Diocese of Bacolod is appealing to the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod to approve its request to hold a Summer Trade Fair along the sidewalk surrounding the Bacolod City Public Plaza from March 15 to May 15.

In his letter to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran dated February 14, Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon said the trade fair will be held in their property at the plaza along the sidewalk of Gatuslao Street across Merzci Bread and Pastries, and the length of the sidewalk along Rizal Street fronting La Consolacion College, all the way to Queen City Development Bank.

Buzon said they are favorably endorsing former trade fair organizer Aliah Limbo Ambor who assured the Diocese that their exhibitors will strictly comply with health protocols and rules and regulations being imposed by the city thru the Emergency Operations Center.

Councilor Renecito Novero, during the SP regular session Wednesday, said he is in favor of the request of the Bishop and that he believes it will do more help than harm.

Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairman of the SP Committee on Laws and the Committee on Transportation, said, however, that he wants to know the sentiments of the members of the City Council.

He said he will accept the request of the Bishop first and then conduct a public hearing. But if there are suggestions from the members of Council, he will listen. His only concern is that the activity might create traffic congestion along Rizal Street.*
