Bacolod earmarks P27M for education

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya announced that the city is set to allocate P27 million to its education sector in the proposed P4.75 billion annual budget for 2026.

Gasataya submitted the 2026 Executive Budget to the Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday, which will be subject for approval during its next regular session.

The proposed P4.75 billion budget represents an increase of approximately P350 million compared to the P4.4 billion budget approved for the current year.

Gasataya identified the increase in the number of city scholars as one of his top priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.

Meanwhile, 949 scholars under the Public Employment Service Office Scholarship Program will receive a P3,000 allowance per semester, starting this School Year 2025-2026.

The financial aid will be given directly to the students, and is on top of the existing subsidy that the city releases directly to their respective schools.

The city is currently working to release the first semester allowance this October.*
