The Emergency Operations Center in Bacolod City will be closely monitoring the index cases of the Coronavirus 2019 in the city after they noted a sudden increase in cases in the last two days, its Executive Director, Em Ang, said yesterday.

Ang, who is also the City Administrator, said Bacolod had zero new cases on Monday, nine on Tuesday and 16 as of 11 a.m. yesterday consisting of locally stranded individuals and authorized persons outside residence.

She said other new Covid-19 infected individuals also include those with comorbidities and who had close contacts with previous index cases, adding that, they are all in different quarantine facilities.

Asked if this will warrant a stricter quarantine status, Ang said not yet although she stressed that this would mean the people will need to continue observing minimum health protocols and be vigilant because, if not, the virus will rapidly spread again in the city.

Department of Health Region 6 showed that Bacolod currently has 81 active cases while the city’s total COVID infected residents  has already climbed to 5,881 with 5,614 recovered and 186 casualties.

The DOH Region 6 added that of the 5, 881 COVID patients recorded in Bacolod, 5,434 are local cases.

With the increase of the COVID cases in the city in the last two days, Mayor Evelio Leonardia ordered an aggressive monitoring of the situation and the immediate conduct of contact-tracing to contain the spread of the virus.

Leonardia also ordered the reactivation of the COVID isolation facilities that were closed earlier when the cases in Bacolod dropped.*
